Uke 33: Jotunheimen

JIT!

We went to Jotunheimen on P-day and that was amazing!! Jotunheimen is a big National Park in our area, which has the biggest mountains in Norway and all of Northern Europe!  It was super different from the rest of Norway that I have seen. The only animals we saw were a small wild guinea pig and an arctic pigeonsaurus. Everywhere I have been up until now has lots of forests, but Jotunheimen is high elevation and surprisingly barren, it was beautiful and really awesome to see that unique part of the country. We hiked an awesome mountain and got lots of pictures. Here in Hamar it has been nothing but blue skies and sun for the last couple weeks, so we didn't expect / plan for the amount of snow that was still up there, but it turned out awesome!

The rest of the week was also great, because Elder Steele and I are working really hard! We got a new investigator and we would have had someone in church but his car broke down on the way and he got there right as church was over. We'll get him next week.

Cool Story: We don't have a ton of opportunities to teach people here in Norway so we get LOTS of time to try to find new people to teach. On Thursday this week, we spent a little over 3 hours in the afternoon walking around in the heat going door to door and had no success at all. We gave out 0 Books of Mormon, nobody said we could try back another day, or anything like that. Most people would call that a non-successful day. So we felt a little discouraged and exhausted by the end of that day. But we're missionaries so we don't give up that easy. The next day, we went back and gave out 4 books and had 2 new potentials after about 15 minutes! I'm going to tell the story about my favorite one. Elder Steele and I were walking down the road when a few friendly 6-7 year old boys rode up on their bikes and asked us who we were and what they were doing. When we told them we were giving out free books about Jesus they got really excited and asked if they could have one! So we gave them a book and they asked when we could come back. We said they would have to ask their parents first haha. They agreed and one said "Jeg synes egentlig det er... super bra!" (I actually think that is... super good!) so that was the quote of the week!

Another funny story: We wanted to give a general conference talk to an investigator about recognizing answers to prayers by Richard G. Scott. Unfortunately, we couldn't find it in Norwegian because it was a pretty old talk. So we decided to translate it ourselves. We thought it would be quickest to plug it all into google translate and then read through and fix any errors. I'm glad we revised it and didn't just give her the google translate version, because google made some pretty funny translation mistakes. Here are a few of them:

1. Whirpool of emotions > bubblebath of feelings
2. Unrepented sin > untouched pity
3. She poured out her heart to god > she coughed up her heart to God
4. She sobbed for 20 minutes > She sucked for 20 minutes
5. She raised her head > Her head traveled
5. We all have agency > We all have official departments

Hope yall have an awesome week! I took too many pictures this week to share them the normal way so I'm gonna try to share a folder with yall. Hope it works.

Ha det super bra!

Uke 32: Syttende Mai Celebrations and SUN

HEI DERE!

Today was an awesome week!! I spent Norway's National Day in Oslo and got sunburned twice! 😎

We got a couple service opportunities this week! On Tuesday we got to do more lumberjack work for our investigator named Earnest, and on Friday we picked weeds for a member for 2-3 hours, and I got cooked! It was over 25 degrees Celcius and the sun was shining. It kinda hurt but I am just too happy about Summer to care too much!!!

It wasn't a very successful week for missionary work, but it was really fun! On Wednesday we took a train down to Oslo where we spent the night with a couple other missionaries there. On Thursday, we went into the city and got to see the parades, and dancing, and the royal family! Also everyone was wearing Bunader, which is the traditional Norwegian clothing that is only worn on very very special occasions, so that was cool! It was a little crazy in downtown Oslo on 17 Mai and there were probably more tourists than Norwegians, but it was an awesome experience! We went to the mission home in the afternoon and had a barbecue there with about 20 other missionaries, President Hill, and his wife. It was a party and we played Kubb and ate food!

After the trip to Oslo, Elder Steele and I felt the need to make up for lost time doing missionary work, so we spent 6 hours straight on Saturday afternoon banking on doors. We didn't get much success from it but it felt good to work hard and get sunburned again.🐊

HA DET BRA DERE!

Uke 31: Summer at last!

GOD MORGEN!

I got a new companion this week! 💯 Elder Steele is awesome and we have been working hard and having a lot of fun together! He spent the first 6 weeks of his mission in Bergen before coming here, and I think he is very happy to be out of the rain. Its pretty much been summer here for the last few weeks, and Elder Steele and I have started contacting on the beach because that where everyone is in Hamar when the weather is nice.

I'm gonna just share a couple highlights and fun experiences that happened this week:

1. Yesterday we were banking in the afternoon and it was really hot outside. An ice cream truck stopped next to us and the guy inside told us to come get some ice cream. I would have, but i didn't have my wallet on me so we reluctantly declined. He said "Oh that's fine, just come have some ice cream!" So he gave us krone-is and told us to take a break. We had to pay him somehow so we gave him a Book of Mormon and he thought that would be a good trade.

2. We had an appointment on Saturday with an investigator named Brendhaugen. He is 90 years old and is almost completely deaf and has had many surgeries and is starting to show a few signs of aging... but when we showed up at his house for the appointment he was chopping wood shirtless in his backyard. He is one of the most legendary old men I have ever met. I now know what I want to be when I grow up.

3. We got permission from the mission president to take a train down to Oslo to spend 17 Mai there!!! 17 Mai is Norwegian independence day and it will be amazing spending the day in the biggest / capital city!

4. We got another investigator in church!

So yeah we had an awesome week up here in Hamar! Hope everything goes well for yall in USA [?] I didn't get any cool pictures this week but ill get some next week! Ha det bra!

Uke 30: Two Investigators At Church!

Hei dere!

We had an awesome missionary week in Hamar! We got 2 new investigators, and for the first time since i came to Norway, we got an investigator in church!!!!!! And we actually got 2 in church this week! A few weeks ago we lost contact with one investigator because his phone stopped working, and we had no other way to find him. We kinda lost hope of ever talking to him again, but this week we got a call from him and he wanted to meet again! So we did and then he came to church with us! And then another investigator just showed up at church and we didn't even expect it. So that was definitely the highlight of the week!

The weather has been beautiful and also for the first time since coming to Norway, we have been contacting in just our white shirts because it has been too hot!  🌞 One day we were out in the city and a cool guy from Switzerland and his young daughter came up to us and gave us a rose to "encourage us". It seems like as the weather is getting nicer, so are the people.

Transfers are this week and I am getting a new companion! His name is Eldste Steele! I haven't met him yet because he's pretty new but I am super excited to work with him! My current companion, Elder Sadler, will be moving to Sandvika (West Oslo).

Have a fantastisk hyggelig week homies!
