Uke 23: Koselig og hyggelig

hallo folkens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We got a couple more investigators this week! One is a total bro muslim guy named Shpetim. The other is a super cool Eritrean teenager named Josef! So the work is progressing and were hoping to have some people ready for baptism by the time the lake unfreezes haha. It actually got above 0*C this week a couple times and the sun has been shining a lot so its been very koselig.

Last week i wrote that we were going to have a lesson with a spanish lady. We showed up and she wasnt home but her husband was... He is Norwegian and atheist. But he was very hyggelig and he let us come in. We talked about evolution, the nature of spirits, and the origin of the universe, and of course the church and the book of mormon. He had read the bible and the quran before, so he was pretty interested in reading our book. He took a Book of Mormon in Norwegian and one in Spanish for his wife, and a card with our number and the churches address. I dont know of too many missionaries that have given 2 books and a card to an atheist before so Elder Sadler and I feel pretty special.

On thursday we got to take a train to Oslo for Zone conference! I got to see some homies and hear our Zone leaders' analogy for weight lifting applied to making studies effective. Also its always cool to go to Oslo cuz there are so many people there!

Uke 22: A Successful Week

We gained a new investigator this week! This is the first new investigator we have gotten since I came to Hamar so I'm pretty excited about it! Her name is Eli and she met with missionaries years ago when she lived in Oslo, and she almost joined the church then, but when she moved here she lost contact with missionaries until we banked on her door. She is super nice and open to learning!

Other than that, there wasnt too much going on this week so we had lots of free time to contact people on the street and bank on doors. We found 4-5 people who said they might be interested to meet with us so it was a a pretty successful week for us. One lady that we found is from Spain (we think she said spain) but her Norwegian isnt so good so Elder Sadler and I have started reading church pamphlets in Spanish to learn some Iglesia vocab.

On one day after a lot of walking around the city talking to people we decided we needed a little break so we explored Hamar a little. Apparently Hamar is home to the world's most renowned diving tower, so we went to the lake to look at that, and check out some other stuff there. The lake is frozen and covered with snow, so we walked out on it and wrote Jesus in the snow. Picture included. Unfortunately it has snowed another 4-6 inches since then so its probably not visible anymore 😢

have it well, we are spoken!

Uke 21: Full of Fun

I have officially been a missionary for 6 months as of Wednesday! It feels like i just got here, so its crazy to think that I'm over 25% done with my mission already! 💯

On tuesday we had district meeting in Lillestrøm and that was skikkelig parti som vanlig (Proper party as usual). After that we all traveled to Oslo together to hand out Mormons books in front of the book of mormon musical at the theater downtown.  It was a super fun experience!! The 6 of us gave out about 200 books in about 30 mins. I think the people liked the play because I have never seen Norwegians in such a jolly mood and wanting a copy of the book of mormon before. I asked a lot of them how the musical was and everyone loved it so if you won't be offended by a bunch of people making fun of mormons in song form you should go see it haha.

After that, i went back to Lillestrøm with Elder Collett for splits. Hes a funny guy, so splits was good. Also it was very nice being in an area with other missionaries close by. We get a little lonely up in Hamar sometimes, so its always a party hanging out with the Oslo/Lillestrøm squad.

After splits we did service shoveling snow for a guy named Bjørn in his 20s who is kind of an investigator but mostly just likes hanging out with us.

We had a dinner with Reidun one night, a very old lady who lives way out in the boonies. After a long icy drive with some sketchy sliding of the car, we arrived safely and she fed us "brennsnut" which is a traditional west-norwegian stew that literally translates to "burning snout". I dont understand why they dont just let it cool down a little bit... I guess its just so they can keep the name. Anyways, it was delicious and i recommend it.

ha det bra din lilla ape

(Nick has learned how to knit, a popular pastime among the Norwegians. He knitted himself a tie on his train ride transfer to Hamar, and I am quite impressed!)

here are some pics of my tie. I had a bunch of leftover yarn so im working on another one now, and then i'll give away the first one.
